Package Details

Day 01: Arrive Addis Ababa at Bole International Airport and meet us for transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Meet the driver in Gonder air port continue driving to the extraordinary and majestic Semien Mountain National Park. On this drive you will gain your first impression of the scale and beauty of this highland region. After a steep ascent onto the escarpment, a straight forward drive takes you to the first camp site called Sankaber. O/n Camping at Sankaber camp site.
135 kms to the first camp site, 1 hours flight to Gonder and 3 hours driving to the national park. Moderate to physical type hiking. 30 minuets – 2 hrs. Walking shoes is needed.

Day 03: Trek to Geech; Following the edge of the escarpment, which narrows to form a ridge at Sankaber, we now have awesome views on both sides. Descend into the Koba River valley and up the other steep side to Michotis with its view of the large waterfall where the Jin Bahir River cascades into the Geech Abyss. Continue for another half hour before descending to the river in the Abyss and ascending steeply on the other side through Geech Village to Geech camp for an overnight A.M. Overnight Camping at Geech.5-7 hours Moderate to physical type hiking. 5-7hrs. walking shoes is needed

Day 04: We trek 6-7 h to Chenek through giant Lobelia trees, where a lot of wildlife can be seen. After picnic lunch walk on the edge of the Enatye escarpment (4000m), which offers an other breathtaking view. Finally we descend to Chenek, the best place to see the endemic Walia Ibex and more Gelada Baboons. Overnight camping at Chenek (3600m). Moderate to physical type hiking 6-7hrs. Walking shoes is needed.

Day 05: We walk 7?8 h to Ambiquo climbing the Buhit (4430m) peak, the 2nd highest next to Ras Dashen. After refresment at the summit we descend towards Chero Laba and cross the Mesheha River. We spend the night in Ambiquo, before the big day on Ras Dashen. Camping at Ambiquo (3200m). Moderate to physical type hiking 7-8hrs. Walking shoes is needed.

Day 06: Pre dawn start towards mount Ras Dashen (4543m), the most challenging day of the trek. We head up the valley to the small village of Mizma, from where we climb steeply upwards, eventually reaching an impressive amphitheatre made up of three major buttresses of expanded rock. One of them is our goal, Ras Dashen. It is then an easy scramble to the summit of Ras Dashen, which is Africa’s fourth highest peak. After taking in the impressive view descend back to Ambiquo for camping. The whole round trek takes about 8?10 hours. Walking shoes is needed.

Day 07: You walk back to Chenek passing through the side of the Bohit Mountain. Overnight is camping at Chenek campsite. (3600m) This day takes about 6 ?7 hours walk. Walking shoes is needed

Day 08: After breakfast drive back to Gonder. After lunch visit the Complex palace of Gonder, The King Fasilida’s bath, The Debre Birhan Sellassie church, which is famous for its age old mural paintings, and the Fellasha ( Ethiopian Jews) village. Overnight hotel 160 kms, 4 hours.

Day 09: Fly back to Addis Ababa. You have a half day city tour. Evening after the dinner program in one of the traditional restaurant transfer to air port for departure. End of the tour. Simple day. Sandal Shoes and Shorts are good.

 

 

Afar- Danakil Depression

Day 1: Arrive Addis Ababa at Bole International Airport and meet us for transfer to hotel. Overnight hotel.

Day 2: Early morning departure to Awash. Lunch at Awash fall lodge. Late afternoon, game drive in the Park with visit of the majestic Awash River Falls. Overnight lodge. 143 kms, 3 hours. Tough driving to the Park with moderate walking. Walking shoes is preferable.

Day 3: Drive to Semera ,the capital of the Afar region. On this day visit the Afar people and their village. Overnight camping. 350 kms, 6 hours.

Day 4: Drive to Afdera through the desert area of the Afar region and visit the salt lakes. 273 kms, 5 hours.

Day 5: Drive from Afdera to Ertalie along the desert and sandy road. Evening enjoy the active volcano of Erta Alie. Overnight camping. 30 kms.

Day 6: Drive to Amdella to visit the Dalol Depression, the lowest place in the world (116 meter below see level). Overnight camping at Amdella 85 kms

Day 7: After breakfast drive to the Dallol depression to visit the area which seems like on other planet;The color of the area is beautiful.
Day 8: After an early breakfast drive to Mekele. En route, visit the local people traveling from Dalol to Tigray region with their camels carrying salt. Overnight hotel.

Day 9: Transfer to Mekelle air port to fly back to Addis Ababa. You have time for shopping. Evening after the dinner program in one of the traditional restaurant, transfer to air port for departure. End of the tour.

Debre Libanos is an important monastic centre for Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, the monastery  was founded by the renowned 13th century mystic, Saint Teklehaimanot and there is a small cave near the church (which is of recent construction) where he is said to have stood for seven years on one leg, until the other wasted away and dropped off.

On this tour visitor can combine history and culture with some good bird watching, as we pass through the Sululta Plain we can see Black-winged plovers, Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged geese, Common Cranes and Wheat ears. We will also see one of Ethiopia’s endemic mammals, the Gelada or bleeding heart baboon. (In the gorge we will see a variety of vultures – Lammergeyer, Ruppell and Lappet faced vultures.)

Leaving the Gorge we proceed to the church. After the church visit we can make the climb to the cave of St Teklehaimanot. Near the cave monks may show visitors the remains of some 300 monks, slaughtered in 1936 by the Italian invaders. If you continue up the hill from the cave from the top there is a great view of the surrounding countryside. We will have picnic at Gorge or from Ethio- German Lodge. Walk to Portuguese Bridge of the 16thc during the war between Lowland Muslim and Highland Christian, built to connect Shewa and Gojam then retrace to Addis.

A day tour to Melka Kunture and Adadi mariam

Morning after breakfast we head to south-west on the Jimma road, before turning due south on to the Butajira Road. Melka Kunture lies near the Awash River Gorge and is one of the most important Neolithic sites in Ethiopia. Hand axes and various other implements have been found here. There is a museum at the site.

Further drive on the Butajira Road turn to right after 8km there is rock hewn church of Adadi Mariam, contemporaneous with those of Lalibela – in fact local tradition ascribes it to King Lalibela who is said to have had it built on his visit to Mount Ziquala.

Our final stop today is at Tiya, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, where we can see the northernmost example of a peculiar type of engraved, standing stelae which stretch across parts of southern Ethiopia. These stelae are believed to have been erected between the 12th and 14th centuries and are almost certainly grave markers – recent excavations at Tiya have revealed the remains of young people of both sexes, aged between 18 to 30 years old buried in foetal positions. Back to Addis and end of the tour.

Day 01:  Early morning drives to Awash for  about four hours and then enjoy the splendid beauty of Awash river waterfall. After lunch break game drive to Salla plains for wild life and bird watching.

Day 02:  Start driving to the foothills of mount Fentale where you can begin the five hours trek to the volcano. Then drive back to the beautiful natural spa or palm pool with picnic lunch. From there drive to the remote Sabure typical Afar peoples Saturday market where they have separate cattle and commodity market. After taking the picnic lunch at the hot springs drive to lake Beseka near the Hyena Cave to see the Hyena’s leave the cave here one can see a minimum of twenty to thirty Hyena while enjoying the aquatic birds at lake Beseka including the rare Pink Flamingoes. Then drive back to Awash National Park and O/n there.

Day 03:  Early morning to the southern section of the park for another game viewing, and start driving back to Addis Ababa stopping at Nazareth for Lunch before returning back to the capital ending the trip.

Day 01: Drive to Awash National Park

An early morning drive after breakfast will take you to Awash National Park, one of Ethiopia most visited parks. In this park you will have a chance to see different kinds of bird species, so far more than 460 species have been recorded, among them the extremely rare Yellow-throated seed eater ,somber rock chat, francolin, barbet, fish eagle lammergeyer and pygmy falcons ,and the beautiful beisa oryx and soemmering’s  gazelles easily seen here. Greater and lesser kudus (particularly in the area called Kudu Valley),defassa, waterbucks, warthogs and black-and- white Columbus, are easily to see Lions, cheetahs, leopards, black-backed jackals, they are rarely  seen. Overnight stay in Awash Lodge.

Day 02: Visit Awash National Park 

Today you will have full day to explore this National Park. Overnight: Camping.

Day 03: Drive to Sodere Resort

Today after breakfast we drive to Sodere resort center, which is the most popular area, frequently visited by both domestic and foreign tourists. Numerous Birds, and monkeys, can be seen. The Olympic size swimming pool and  physiotherapy center is frequented visited  by visitors of all ages. Sodere lies along sides of Awash river and feature lush, shady vegetation. Vervet monkeys are live on the resort ground, crocodiles and,   hippos  may be seen in the nearby Awash river. The hot springs resort, popular for its therapeutic effects. This resort is popular draw for weekenders from Addis Ababa. Other features include a full service restaurant, Hotel and conference center. Overnight : in Sodere resort Hotel.

Day 04: Excursion to Arsi Mountain National

 This National Park is found in Arsi and western Arsi  zone. The park is sub divided in to 4 blocks. These are dera-Dilfekar, Chilalo-Galema,Kaka and Honkolo blocks, Due to the presence of this blocks the park has different agro ecological zones (Kola, Waynadega and Dega). Arsi Mountain National Park is the nearest park to Addis Ababa than others. Today we visit Dera Dilfekar Block, its 15 k/m from the Sodere resort center in the south west, the block is found in the lowland which is situated in 1300 to 1841 meters above sea level. This makes the block to be visited all over the year. There are about 25 wild mammals and more than 189 birds are recorded. those are dominated by Greater kudu, Lesser kudu, Spotted hyena, Golden back Jackal, Abyssinian hare, Leopard, Warthoge, Grivet monkey, Anubis baboon, Leopard, Grey Duiker, etc, from birds, little bee eater, black wood hoopoe, grey wood peaker, Grey headed sparrow, shinning sun bird, Rupp ells long tailed starling, Red checked corden blue, Speckled mouse bird, ring necked dove, black kite, Long crested eagle, etc. Overnight: in Sodere resort Hotel.

Day 05: Drive back to Addis Ababa via Debre Ziet

Today after breakfast drive to Debre Zeit ,on the way  visit two or three crater lakes of Debre zeit, then check in to flight back home.
